A ringing in the ears is a medical condition caused from damaged nerve endings and cells in the inner ear. These nerve endings are meant to relay electrical impulses to the brain which then interprets these impulses as sounds.

I want to discuss one of the most disturbing of health symptoms, ringing ears. The condition known as ringing ears can be caused by a multitude of reasons but the most frequent of these is exposure to loud noise.

I am 46 and I have had ringing in my ears consistently for the past 4 - 5 years. The hearing in my left ear has been slowly diminishing during this time period. When I was a teenager I listened to a lot of very loud music and remember my ears ringing for 3 days after a concert.

Often cochlear damage occurs as a result of a sudden loud noise or a blow to the head. When those airbags deploy in a motor accident the shock and noise that is generated often causes cochlear damage with the resultant ear ringing or that buzz in the ear that you are experiencing.

Fifteen minutes of loud, pounding music; machinery; or other loud noises can cause ringing in the ears. Loud noise causes the eardrum to vibrate excessively and can damage the small hairs in the cochlea, a tube in the inner ear that converts sound into electrical signals for the brain to process.
